FRITZ CARSON (Temecula, CA) - Confirmed!

(a.k.a. “Handsome Fritz”, “Fantastic Fritz”, “Mischievous Fritz”, “Savage Fritz”, “Safari Fritz”,
“The Fritzinator”, “Wolfman”, “Wookiee” and “Homey 089”)

While the other dachshund competitors have a Bio here, Fritz' reads more like a Blotter:

May 2011 – Fritz is Disqualified for a Major Foul against “Delightful Daphne” in their Second Chance match race in the Puppy Division at the 2011 Wine Country Wiener Fest (WCWF) in Temecula. Fritz has always maintained his innocence and his only statement on the record to date has been “She’s 6 pounds, fast and gray – I though she was a rabbit.”
(Slow motion video evidence courtesy of Mick Herod Productions)

June 2011 – Fritz (yellow #4) WINS his preliminary heat at the Los Alamitos Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals after the judges confer and elect NOT to call a Major Tackling Foul despite “Doxie Down” contact with Fritz in that race (video link).
Fritz (now white #2) finishes FOURTH in the Finals (out of 100 doxies total) to cement his credentials as a “national level” racer. But Mischievous Fritz wasn’t done running! He then proceeded to take a self guided tour of Los Alamitos Race Course for an additional five minutes of mayhem, with his horrified handlers in hot pursuit as broadcast live on the jumbo-tron for the crowd’s entertainment! (video link)

Fritz is also a repeat heat winner and finalist at the Lake Elsinore Storm Dog Day Races and Dos Lagos Corona Dachshund Races, where he has run a time of 2.50 seconds (14.45 MPH) for the official-unofficial dachshund sprint distance of 53 feet (not wind aided).

  • Best recorded time for 53’ sprint = 2.50 sec = 14.45 MPH average
It is also widely rumored that “Safari Fritz” prepares for the racing season with regular training sessions down at the San Diego Wild Animal Park, but we have no evidence to confirm these wild allegations.

Fritz Carson – seasoned racing professional, controversial “bad dog” or both? A spokesperson for the Norco Sherriff’s Department would only say (speaking on condition of anonymity), “We know when Fritz Carson is riding into town and make no mistake – we’ll be ready for him.”

Fritz Carson is owned & somewhat-handled by Pam Carson of Temecula, CA

LADY LUV (Huntington Beach, CA) - Confirmed!

In HER own words…

“I’m now 1 year old (I’ll be 2 on October 31st) and trying my hardest to live up to the legacy of my predecessor Baby Luv, Past Wienerschnitzel San Diego Champion and their “Goodwill Ambassador and “50th Anniversary Golden Girl”.

I started racing at a very early age. I was invited to participate in a puppy race at Old World Village in Huntington Beach when I was 3 months old. I dominated the race and was immediately hooked on racing.

At 5 months I went to the Pet Expo where I brought home a 2nd place trophy from the Sunday afternoon races.

At 8 months old I brought home my first Old World Village trophy placing third in July.

5 days after I turned 9 months old I qualified for the top 16 at the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals San Diego time trials with the 5th fastest time of 3.00 seconds.

To celebrate I raced the following week at Old World and went undefeated bringing home my first 1st place trophy.

But, one of my proudest moments was when Wienerschnitzel sent me my official #1 jacket and declared me their “Goodwill Ambassador” as the successor to Baby Luv.
  • 2012 Old World March 18 Puppy Races - undefeated Champion
  • 2012 Orange County Pet Expo Runner-up

DELIGHTFUL DAPHNE (La Mesa, CA) - Invited...

In the words of her humans Tim & Ellen…

“She is petite but loves to compete! She was a recent qualifier for the San Diego Regional Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals at Del Mar and also enjoys racing at Old World in Huntington Beach, as well as the annual TVDC Wine Country Wiener Fest (WCWF) Races. Daphne is happy to entertain you with her bag of tricks! She also recently discovered her new swimming skill and was thought to look like a SEAL upon exiting the water! She will surely charm you…”

Delightful Daphne Mendez – barely 5 pounds of her – ran valiantly in her preliminary heat at Del Mar on Labor Day, but was hampered by a “wardrobe malfunction” as she ran right out of the smallest racing silks they could offer her - even despite a whole lot of checker-board duct tape tailoring! Daphne still stole thousand of hearts at Del Mar and she was a star of the show as always!

But don’t be fooled by her TINY size – FAST things come in SMALL packages! She was a Puppy Division finalist at the 2011 WCWF despite being ROLLED by “Savage Fritz” (see Fritz’ bio above for HIS side of the story).

Delightful Daphne’s achievements include:

  • 2011 Wine Country Wiener Fest – Puppy Division Finalist
  • 2012 Del Mar Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals Regional Qualifier
  • Best recorded time for 53’ sprint = 2.81 sec = 12.86 MPH average

Doxie Racing Rules & Information

First off – if you have never raced your Doxie before, you are in for a FUN time! As with all “sports” there are some who take it more seriously than others, and occasionally some who take it TOO seriously. Please remember that our Norco Oktoberfest Doxie Races have one goal – FUN for everyone entered and watching. If you’re not having FUN – you’re doing it wrong!

Now for the technical stuff:

  1. Dachshund Races are FREE – with your $5 admission to the Norco Oktoberfest.
  2. The Friday night “Norco’s Fastest Dachshund” races and Sunday afternoon “National Invitational Races” are for pre-registered entries ONLY.

  3. The Saturday “All Comers – Open Qualifying” Race will accept all doxie entrants from 3:00pm to 4:00pm with the winner of each heat receiving a winning time.
  4. Judge's decisions are final as to whether your dog is or is not a dachshund.
  5. Entrants may race as many times as they wish during Open Qualifying – just get back in line if you want to run again.
  6. Qualifying heats must have 3 or 4 dachshund to run and be timed.
  7. Available lane choice shall be at the discretion of the next person in line for Qualifying heats.
  8. The top 16 heat winning times will advance to a championship bracket.
  9. The Saturday bracket races will begin at approximately 4:30pm.

  10. The Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon bracket races will be double-elimination format.
  11. Immediately after each first-round race, the non-winners will race again to advance in a "Second Chance" (consolation) bracket that will also lead to the Championship.
  12. Dogs are eliminated from bracket competition upon losing a second race.
  13. Any dog advancing to a day’s Final race via the "Second Chance" bracket must beat the "Winner's Bracket" entrant(s) TWICE to win the category.
  14. We will use the 4-stall starting box shown in the photo below.
  15. Doxies may choose to borrow & wear a numbered racing bib if desired, but this is completely optional. Doxies may race naked, so to speak.
  16. For each race 2 humans are required – one to place the doxie into the starter box + one at the finish line to coax and call the doxie there. If you have only 1 human (you!) – an Oktoberfest race volunteer may be available to help you.
  17. Like a horse race, once all doxies are “in the box” the gate will be opened rather quickly thereafter to start the race.
  18. The human at the start shall NOT throw, shove, pitch, push or otherwise propel the Doxie out of the starting box once opened! Please let them RUN out of the starting box under their own power.
  19. All races will be approximately 53 feet in length – the official, unofficial “standard sprint distance” in doxie racing.
  20. There are no "lane lines" or lanes in our doxie races – doxies, lanes… I don’t think so!
  21. There may be out-of-bounds barriers or markings (caution tape) on or near ground level on each side of the racing area for the length of the race. This will NOT necessarily keep doxies in the racing area. It is meant primarily to keep onlookers OUT of the racing area during the races. Doxies are NOT disqualified for going “out-of-bounds” – they may come back in-bounds and keep going.
  22. Humans may not “run the course” with their Doxie to coax them along!
  23. Each race continues until we have a winner AND all other competitors in the race either finish or “resign” (i.e. owner picks them up).
  24. There will be TWO lines on the ground at the Finish Line about 3 feet apart. The line closest to the starting box is the Doxies’ Finish Line. The farther line is the one behind which the coaxing / calling human(s) must remain to receive the racing Doxie.
  25. The finish line plane is “infinitely wide” – a Doxie does NOT need to cross the finish line over the marker on the ground. Crossing the Finish Line plane while “out-of-bounds” is still considered “finishing” the race and a Winner if first to do so.
  26. Touching by the receiving human of the Doxie before he/she breaks the Finish Line on his/her own disqualifies the Doxie from potentially winning the race.
  27. Decisions of the Race Judge and times of the Race Timer(s) are final and binding an may not be protested. (They’re all good people doing their best for you!)
I know this is a lot of information for our first-time racers. Don’t let it intimidate you – have FUN with your Doxie and enjoy our Norco Oktoberfest Dachshund Races!!!
